Who will be crowned the first-ever Statesboro Voice? Will Gay of Millen is one of the eight finalists.

The eight final contestants of the Averitt Center for the Arts inaugural event have been rehearsing for the past month for the final competition. This vocal contest is bringing in some of the best talent that the area has to offer and, on Saturday, April 28th, “The Statesboro Voice” contestants will have the ability to compete in front of the public for a chance at the title.

The Statesboro Voice, sponsored by Lanier, Proctor and Deal, CPAs along with Statesboro Steam, is the main fundraiser for the Averitt Center’s Creative Growth Capital Campaign and uses the “fan voting” process in order to help raise money. Voting for the contestants is open to the public and costs just $1. Pages for each contestant is available at https://bit.ly/2HSM4TY. Voting is unlimited and people are encouraged to vote for their favorite contestant as many times as they wish in order to accelerate them in the competition. There will be both an overall Statesboro Voice winner, determined by a professional judge, as well as a People’s Choice winner, which will be determined by the on-line and in-person voting.

Tickets are $25 (hors d’oeuvres included) and can be purchased online at averittcenterforthearts.org or by calling (912) 212-2787.
The eight contestants have successfully navigated first two rounds of auditions in order to clench their spots in the finale. They range from high schoolers to young professionals and each of them brings something unique to the table. All of the contestants are ready for the competition and want to encourage the public to check out their voter pages on Facebook and come to Saturday night’s show, which begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Emma Kelly Theater.

Millen’s Will Gay is bringing his “A” game and is excited about the opportunity to be in the competition. The Queensborough National Bank customer service representative hopes to win over the crowd with his soulful style.
